KFC's AI work runs through two companies. Yum! Brands, which franchises KFC worldwide, puts it on Byte by Yum! — elements of which all four of its U.S. brands use to process more than 300 million digital transactions a year — and in March 2025 announced an NVIDIA-powered AI rollout targeting 500 restaurants across its brands, KFC included. Yum China, the master franchisee in mainland China, introduced an AI menu with personalized recommendations at KFC in 2019 and began piloting Q-Smart, an AI assistant for store managers, in June 2025.

Taco Bell, a Yum! Brands division with 9,030 restaurants at the end of 2025, is the group's furthest along on voice AI: its vendor Omilia says the drive-thru voice ordering they began in 2023 now runs in more than 890 U.S. restaurants across 38 states (July 2026). Taco Bell U.S. also runs on Byte by Yum!, the group's AI-driven ordering, point-of-sale and back-of-house software introduced in 2025.
