KFC

#3 of 15 in its sector · +11 vs sector average · best marketing AI 84, lowest training & support AI 70

KFC's AI work runs through two companies. Yum! Brands, which franchises KFC worldwide, puts it on Byte by Yum! — elements of which all four of its U.S. brands use to process more than 300 million digital transactions a year — and in March 2025 announced an NVIDIA-powered AI rollout targeting 500 restaurants across its brands, KFC included. Yum China, the master franchisee in mainland China, introduced an AI menu with personalized recommendations at KFC in 2019 and began piloting Q-Smart, an AI assistant for store managers, in June 2025.

McDonald's

#1 of 15 in its sector · +19 vs sector average · best operations AI 92, lowest training & support AI 82

McDonald's had 45,356 restaurants at the end of 2025, about 95% of them franchised, and $139.4 billion in systemwide sales. Its clearest AI investment is infrastructure: Google Cloud edge computing inside restaurants, under a partnership announced in December 2023, to track how kitchen equipment performs and reduce disruptions. Customer-facing AI has been uneven — a voice-ordering test with IBM in more than 100 U.S. drive-thrus was ended in 2024.
